About Our Organization

We are happy to have you visit our site and hope you will enjoy your time with us. You might want to join us if you are a licensed health care professional or you might want to learn more about hypnosis, or you might want to find one or more of our members. In any event, we hope you come back and visit the Canadian Federation of Clinical Hypnosis - Alberta Society (CFCH - AS) often.

The roots of the Alberta Society go back well into the 1970's and before, but the organization became incorporated in 1982.  We were one of the founding component sections of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and we have enjoyed a rich and rewarding relationship with them ever since. We have also been instrumental in the founding of the relatively newly formed Canadian Federation of Clinical Hypnosis (CFCH). In fact, we changed our name from Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis, our name since 1982, to reflect the new reality of having a Canadian focus through CFCH.

We believe that hypnosis should be used for health purposes, and delivered by licensed, trained health care professionals. Our membership is substantial (approximately 150 members currently), and we are an active Society that engages in training, promotion of the use of hypnosis, research and collegiality and consultation among our members. Hypnosis people are a creative group--full of fun, with a commitment to a powerful healing technique with clinical applications for a wide variety of clinical problems.

What characterizes our Society is a spirit of professionalism combined with a strong sense of community. We are a warm, welcoming organization that provides expert training in hypnosis in an atmosphere of collegial support and consultation. We believe we have much to offer to health care professionals who have or want to develop an interest in hypnosis. We can enhance your effectiveness as a clinician and increase your referrals.

Our Banff Conference (every May in Banff, Alberta) has become world famous as a place where great learning, wonderful spirits and a sense of renewal are all likely to happen.

The Society is a non-profit organization administered by an Executive consisting of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, along with committee chairs for Membership, Education and Newsletter. Our office is located in Red Deer and we can be reached in a variety of ways (click here for contact information).

CFCH-AS is a professional society, and is therefore open only to individuals who are licensed health care professionals with either a doctoral or master's degree in medicine, psychology, dentistry, social work, nursing or chiropractic (or who are post-graduate students working toward one of these degrees). Eligibility for membership as a full, affiliate or student member is separate from eligibility to attend conferences so we urge to explore the pages that follow for more details about each of these.

Members of the general public are not eligible to join the Society but the Society provides services to the general public by offering information on these web pages and by providing a referral service so you can utilize the skills of one of our members if you require professional services.
