You've probably come to this site because you are generally interested or curious about hypnosis. We think you have come to the right place. The following will help you to determine who we are and what we advocate.

We are a group of health care professionals (physicians, psychologists, dentists, chiropractors, social workers and nurses), who believe in the power of properly applied hypnosis, as used by licensed health care professionals. In this website, we'd like to:

• answer any questions you may have about hypnosis
• tell you about some of the conditions that hypnosis has been successfully used to treat
• provide some solid facts about what it can and cannot do
• help you access more information about it

One of the problems with the internet is that there are so many sources of information, that it is difficult to know what to believe. On this and the linked pages we'd like to guide you to sources of information that we believe have valid information about hypnosis. Then, it's up to you to make up your own mind.

Who We Are

CSCH-Ontario Division is a group of professional hypnotherapists (psychologists, physicians, dentists, chiropractors and nurses), who are licensed health care professionals with either a doctoral or master's degree (or who are post-graduate students working toward one of these degrees). We also have an affiliate membership option for licensed professionals with bachelor’s degrees, and train individuals with these qualifications. Ontario Division is a non-profit organization administered by an Executive consisting of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, along with Committee Chairs for membership and education. We are a volunteer organization, administered by our Board of Directors. We have about 75 members currently, and are an active society that engages in training, promotion of the uses of hypnosis, research, collegiality and consultation among our members. Our office is in Toronto, Ontario, but our members and Board of Directors come from many other communities around Ontario.

What characterizes our Society is a spirit of professionalism, combined with a strong sense of community. We are a warm, welcoming organization that provides highly expert training in hypnosis in an atmosphere of collegial support and consultation. Hypnosis people are a creative group--full of fun, as well as a commitment to a powerful healing technique with clinical applications for a wide variety of clinical problems.

If you are an Ontario health professional, we believe we have much to offer if you want to learn more about hypnosis. Our members share the belief that hypnosis should be used for health purposes, delivered by licensed, trained health care professionals. We can enhance your effectiveness as a clinician and increase your referrals in a broad range of clinical applications.

Our History & Activities

Ontario Division is a young organization. Since our inception, Ontario Division has been very active. Working with the optimism of the now-famous movie cliche, “If you build it, they will come!”, a handful of enthusiastic volunteers planned and held our first symposium in the fall of 2002, at which the esteemed surgeon and hypnotherapist, Dr. Dabney Ewin, presented a workshop on the use of hypnosis in treating psychosomatic disorders. It was a rousing success.

In September of 2003, we held our first multi-level training workshop at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel in Toronto. Introductory, intermediate and advanced workshops in hypnosis were offered. We also provided faculty training to senior Ontario hypnotherapists, and now have 13 certified trainers, who are qualified to teach here in Ontario.

At that conference, Dr. Daniel Handel, American Society Fellow and former ASCH President, presented an exciting advanced workshop on the “Use of Hypnosis in Pain Management”.

Because of our close affiliations with other members of the professional hypnosis community, our members receive substantial discounts at many other hypnosis training events across Canada and in the U.S.
